Take a color walk with your children and let them find things in the neighborhood that are different colors.

Materials needed:

Small pieces of construction paper in a variety of colors – a good size to use is about the size of a playing card
Paint, markers, and/or crayons
White Art Paper

What to do:

1. Lay out the colored pieces of paper on the table and, depending on how many children you have, allow each child to pick one color and then let the next one pick a color, continuing until all the colored papers have been chosen
2. Take the children for a walk around the outside of the house, and even down the street if the weather is good
3. As they walk they are to look for things that are the colors of their pieces of paper
4. After coming back from the walk, talk about what they found
5. Then using the white art paper allow them to paint of color the things they saw

Another fun version of this uses paint swatches from the home improvement store. I like the kind that has several tones of the same color.
